Never knew this thread was going on. I'm sorry I didn't answer to it in time
I will try to make up for it now. I am also sorry for bringing this thread up again but I feel I need to answer these posts

Andrew: I agree it's no big thing, but it was a bargain price so I took the opportunity to buy it. It soon became unsufficient for my needs so it now lies in a drawer being taken out for the occasional family snapshots. I am working on a photo section of my site so I will probably try and experiment again.

Limbo: Yes my camera does allow for some control over shutterspeed and aperture, but not too much, there are some presets you can choose from. The focus can be set manually, too.

Transmogrify: No I bought the camera earlier, it was paid for from my Easter bonus. The missus got some gold jewelery as a wedding present, I got nothing
Thanks for the comments.

BaconWaffle: Overall I find the macro function pretty satisfactory, but I'm no photographer. All I can say is that images generally look good. Especially the outdoors ones.

Jun Hu: I'm glad your camera works well.

My apologies again people for the late replies.
Emil

I bought my first ever camera a couple of years ago - Fuji 2Mp thing - I was well chuffed at the time - macro etc... some cool pictutres - I thought I was gonna be using it for work etc... carry it round with me and snap interesting brickwork textures etc ...

Didn't happen.

Only thing I use it for is taking snapshots of my son during the holidays.
You can get twice the camera at half the cost now ... so I might get something else in the New Year ??

I've got a fuji s7000 camera (http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/digital/ca...eras/range.php)
which lies somewhere between a compact and an slr. It's brilliant and while a year or so old, you can pick them up pretty cheap these days. Does 6MB or 12MB interpolated photos and is as manual or as automatic as you want. Can't recommend it enough.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4100.

I usually just use it for taking everyday photos, but I've taken some decent quality shots with it. Was $300 when I bought it now it's like $150-$200.

For example:
