I've been looking into upgrading to the 10d - they're getting cheaper over here (under £800 new) so might take the plunge before too long. If it was me i'd go for the 10D and the lighting gear but i'd add summut like a 50mm f1.8 for portrait work (dead cheap too) tried the 20d the other day, very nice indeed |

The 20D's main features are less noise and faster writing times. If you can live with the 10D's speed, which isn't slow, and the 10D's noise at high ISO, then I'd say get the 10D. If you're shooting portraits, you'll need the gear so maybe get the 10D. Either way, post some pics |

Thanks everyone I still really want the 10D but started looking at that Nikon d70 as an alternative. I love the price and features seem great compared with the 10D. However they dont make a virtical grip for that model and my current Canon lenses wont fit. I cant stand make decisions. |

The D70 is going to be discontinued. Once they're gone, they're gone. There is some sort of flaw in it that Nikon isn't happy with. Why don't you just get a Canon for now. If you have lenses already.. Unless you're going to be doing a lot of sequence shots and you need more that 4 fps then even the 300D is a good choice (everything but the framerate is comparable to the D70 anyways...). I have a 300D and love it! I've had absolutely no problems... it's fairly inexpensive... and it's a Canon!!!! (I wouldn't personally buy anything but... I guess I'm a label head). B5 |

I'm Digital Rebel / 300d person myself. I've got mine hacked as well so I have all the 10D features ISO3200, 4000 / sec shutter speed, mirror lock up and loads more. I was tempted with the 20D, but I think I'm gonna wait until they double the 300D preformance i.e. 11mp or above in a pro-sumer camera, shouldnt be long though. blindfive, whats the D70 problem? Jase

I'm not %100 percent sure. It was nothing too major (not enough to warrant a recall), but the designer's were not happy with some focusing issues. Anyways... It's been discontinued. You can only get one from someone who has stock. There won't be anymore shipped out. I believe that they are shooting to have the D100 phase it out (in price as well), and move a D2 model into the price range that the D100 was available at. Probably around Christmas time, or in early 2005. This I all heard from the photo dealer I purchase all my equipment from. That's why I got the Rebel for now... I wanted the D100, be he said if I could be held over, that in the new year I'm be able to get twice as much camera for the money. How knows for sure though... |
