My new photoblog is done
I've finally finished petemc.net. I decided that putting my photos on my weblog just wasn't good enough for them. Sure I have Gallery nicely integrated, but it just feels too casual. So I rebuilt petemc.net into what it is now. Its powered by Moveable Type 3. Everything is handled by MT, all I do is upload the photos, pick the category and publish. The navigation is better than the previous petemc. Everything works nicely now. The frontpage is always updated with the latest post, and MT will cut up the photos into seperate pages to save on 56k users. It also has an RSS feed complete with thumbnails. This makes it much easier to notify people of updates. Its a combination of XHTML 1.0 Strict and Transitional, but validates It should work fine on IE5/IE5.5/IE6/Firefox/Opera7/Safari. *Should* So go take a look, subscribe to the RSS, download some desktops, or watch the Flash As featured on Pixel Girl Presents |

Ah, i'm glad thats up again, I've been trying to have a browse for the last few weeks. I still regard you mate as the person you sparked off the photography bug for me. I've moved on throughout the year, should have my portfolio up soon (he says). Got myself a nice 300D, MUCH better than that fuji s5000 I'll have a browse around and let you know what I think. Jase

That might be so, but digital has made me who I am in the space of 12 months. Its changed my life. I probably will end up with film cameras one day, but for now digital lets me free my mind |

With digital enables you to learn much more quicker than film, you can see what you did wrong straight away instead of waiting 2 or 3 days for a film to get processed and it costing £5. Just delete and move on. Most pros have now turned to digital as they're main media, even digital medium format. I have a few pro friends and they have all dropped film as well. I saw a TV programme the other day and it compared an 11mp camera shot to a film shot and both blown up to about 120 foot high and the digital came out tops because of quality and colour accuracy. Which pro's ? (as in what field) All the Ad photographers we deal with shoot 5:4 tranny (or occasionally neg). Though admitedly a few large scale web projects have been shot on digital. The billboard ads and stuff though are pretty much 100% 5:4. |

The entire media/news/sports industry for one As far as i'm aware they were the first industry to take it up on a mass scale, as they can get their photo's back for publication far faster than with conventional cameras. Especially helpful to them when they're working freelance and are competing against other freelance photographers! (e.g. paparazzi, spit) |

One mate is the main photographer for Flex magazine (bit gay i know As i_am_cam says, its all about being able to turn shots around much quicker and you aint wasting film, not that they pay for it themselves. Makes life a lot easier when proofing to clients for wedding / portrait work "here you go mr and mrs client heres a contact sheet..." 5 min job. I'm just thinking about making the leap into wedding / portrait photography myself. I'll only be using digital. cos of the current trends in the industry people want more lifestyle reportage photos. For that you can get away without even using a medium format and stick to 35mm / DSLR formats. Because everythign is cropped in close no more formal group shots. Jase

My dad's a professional photographer. For the ministry of Traffic and Infrastructure and Environment and Whatnot. He uses top-of-the-range Kodak DCS's, and Nikon D1X's. Yes, several. He didn't pay for it himself, though The photos usually go into books and magazines, and nowadays most of the press business has gone digital as well. It's so much easier. Colour correction and retouching as well. -= In theory, theory should work in practice. =-
