Time-lapse photography
Stumbled upon a few time-lapse videos on flickr recently and gave it a bash this evening. Nothing special, but I plan to go out and about and get more interesting locations. The only downside for now is that I need to bring my Macbook Pro with me and connect the camera to it as this is one of 2 ways to have the camera shoot in set intervals. Another was is to buy some type of remote timer and attach it to the camera. Anyway, here's my first attempt: Sunset in Kayl - Time-lapse on Flickr - Photo Sharing! Brought 420 still images into After Effects and exported as an MP4 video. That 16 second clip took 70 mins to shoot. Luckily you are able to set it up and walk away from it while it takes it's shots. I'll be bringing a book when I venture outdoors. |

Looks good, though another hour or so may have been nice, until it got dark. But either way, good first shot. The software you used - that is part of the software that your camera came with? I had to laugh that it was 420 frames. |

Could have done with a CPF too LOL I did want to keep shooting until it went dark, but the software stopped responding for some reason. I thought the camera battery was dead but it was still full. Was a bit pissed off to be honest. 420 frames is a lot alright, but making it into an MP4 took around 15mins including the render in After Effectss And yes, it's the Canon EOS utility software that came with the camera. |

A CPL is the answer to life, the universe and everything. I think shooting from late afternoon until the sun goes completely down would be the way to go, time-consuming stuff though. |

Definitely time consuming. If you're doing it, then it needs to be in quite a spectacular location or with lots of interesting things moving. Otherwise it will look a bit bland, like my first attempt above. This guy on the other hand had something good to work with: Melbourne docks timelapse on Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

Haha. Charming, I let the camera click away for about an hour. I was watching TV while that was happening. I just bought one of these as it's cheaper than getting surrounded by hoodies, getting beaten up and having my Macbook Pro and camera stolen. The only way I was involved in the shooting was setting the camera on the tripod, launching the software, entering the settings and clicking the Start button. Then popping my head in every now and again to listen for the shutter going off to make sure it was still going. I had thought about the train station location and it's more practical now that I'll have the timer. My girlfriend suggested somewhere in Paris the next time we go to see her parents. |

Had another pop off of this last night. Kinda underestimated how long it would take to melt and ran out of battery just before the final stages of melting. Also got some light fluctuations even though I set white balance to manual. http://www.flickr.com/photos/luxbrand/3365363802/ Last edited by luxbrand : 18-03-2009 at 07:27. |
