Flickr vs. Picasa for saving images: which one do you prefer?

I worry about my hard drive crashing and losing all of my images. (For the sake of discussion, lets forget about backing up images on a DVD.)

I could be wrong (and set me straight if I am) but I tend to think that Picasa and Flickr are the best places to save, back up and store your images. It'll probrably be hard to find someone who has a lot of experience with both image hosts, but if you are that rare person who has used both extensively, which one of the two do you prefer? And why?

Or you could try the myriad of sync and backup options available online. For example I use: File and Media Sync, Web Backup and Mobile Access - SugarSync

Which is pretty damn good, but there are a shitload of other backup options out there. Flickr and Picasa are more about sharing your photos online rather than backing them up... well that's how I see it anyway

I wouldn't use the web for saving my images anyway, there's enough filth on the interwebs already without another 5 Giga's worth from me! I use DVDs to store images.

>Take on camera
>Copy RAW images to external HD (£60 for 250gb, portable)
>Edit and export to JPEG
>Store JPEG in lightroom
>Back up RAW on older machine

Main computer of use is a laptop, so HD space is limited.

Also, if using a Mac, would use flickr for ability to export straight from iPhoto if that's your choice.

You could also purchase some very cheap web space and FTP files to password protected area every, say, week or month
