low budget camera advice
I'm looking to buy a nice digital camera but aren't willing to spend too much, being a student on quite a tight budget. It's just I would like a camera I don't feel reluctant to bring outside with me, afraid of breaking/losing it. I was thinking of prices somewhere around €400 ~($530 / £270). I know a DSLR is a bit out of my league here, but hopefully there are some nice alternatives. It will probably be used for your average day to day photography. And of course to kick ass in the photo comps around dt. Anyone with good experiences with some camera's/brands? |

The Canon Ixus range is high quality and fairly affordable. I'm very pleased with mine. My free fonts www.utfi.net

the ixus 75 looks well smart, and i'm sure i've seen it for just over 200 quid so well within your budget. now trying to 'accidentally' break my 65 to justify buying a new one! Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the one thing that he can’t afford to lose. - Thomas Edison

I have recentely been looking into new cameras, and I have found out this. If you are going to buy a digital SLR, buy Nikon. They are superior when it comes to digital SLR. Their other cameras are not that good. But they rock on DSLR. I am going to buy the D40x, it is around 800$ with a 18 - 55mm lens and it is pretty much the same camera as the D80 only smaller and cheaper. The D40x is their newest camera, it has 10.2 mega pixels and some new great technology for camera shake and such. The camera is also their smallest DSLR, which I see as a good thing seeing as it is easier to carry around. It has only gotten excellent reviews and are rated in the top on most sites(such as best buy and other electronic stores). If 800$ is out of your price range, you might want to look into the D40. It is an older camera, but it is still a good one. It has 6.1 mega pixels compared to the 10.2 the D40x has and I believe it is a bit bigger. The D40 goes for 599$ new, with a lense of some sort, which should be closer to what you are interested in paying. If you want to buy extra lenses, a new nikkor 55 - 200mm lens is around 200$, but this is definitely not a need right away seeing as the 18 - 55mm lens would give you some good starter options, including wide angle. I know I won't buy a new lense right away, but I'll probably buy one sooner rather then later Now, the Nikon D40 is around 500 - 600$ new. That would be kind of in your price range and it is a good camera. Now, if you would don't necessarily want a new camera, you could probably find a used, but good D40 with the 18 - 55mm lens for around 400$. The choices are many, but definitely go with Nikon Last edited by maao : 27-06-2007 at 10:46. |

Now, I got a D40x the yesterday. And I'm stopping at the store to get a flash memory thing today so that I can start to take pictures. I'll let you know how it goes So far.. I am very pleased by the size and the functionality of the camera.. except for the taking pictures part.. since I haven't used it for that, yet. Now the only thing I can think of that might be a minus is that the camera does not have it's own focus engine. So that you need to buy lenses that have their own engine to be able to do auto focus. But, it is probably just a bit of training that needs to be done and that will work out just fine |

coming back to this once more, been doubting and busy in the meanwhile. Now I'm probably going to buy a Canon Ixus 70, tomorrow. I decided DSLR might be a bit too much for my budget and propably too expensive to bring with outside with me without feeling uncomfortable. Anyone feeling I shouldnt buy that ixus 70 has about 18hrs left to warn me about it in this topic. |

get the 75. once you experience that extra half inch, you'll never go back! [insert pun here] Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the one thing that he can’t afford to lose. - Thomas Edison

Ladies and gentlemen. We've got him! ![]() I like it already. Although, the colours do seem phrantically loud in some pics. Might just need some tuning or getting used to. Spending tomorrow at the lakes so I should be able to test it properly. |

Hi guys, I'm new here, and do photography as a part-time business. The first camera that comes to mind in the price range previously stated is one of the Panasonics. I've got an FZ5 for messing around with and it has done me very well. The lens, zoom abilities, and vib. resistance technology are outstanding. Just something to think about. |
