i think as a photographer its always better to start with the basics. so if you havent learned film photography in an slr, i suggest you practice there first. you dont have to buy, just borrow from friends. or whoever but its important to learn it first. then go to digital. the cheapest SLR will do. i would suggest canon. mine is a 350d. i think they might be in your price range. check out my photos too if you want(the link is in my profile) maybe i can check out your pics too.
