What you listening to?
Me? Hot Hot Heat - NY punk on a Strokes tip but better IMO. The Buffseeds - Jingley, jangley indie, very nice. Audio Bullys - Tipped to be big this year, if you like The Streets you'll like this. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

agreed - The Streets are quality (same goes for Lemon Jelly) Been listening to XFM online most afternoon recently and if I hear Audio Bully's one more time I'm going to go insane. - It's a good tune, it's just been played TO DEATH. I like Blur's latest song, it's got some great sounds in it. The Coral's new single's good too. |

If you mean 'jazz', then oi you! 'ave some respect! Jazz and all its off-shoots is still the daddy. You *WILL* respect its author-a-ty!!! Last few listens (in reverse order) Turin Brakes - Ether Songs (on as I type this) Aimee Mann - Lost In Space Ulrich Schnauss - A Strange Isolated Place Kinobe - Soundphiles Mice Parade - True Meaning of Boodleybaye Sigur Rós - Hlemmur OST/S Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Sam Prekop - Sam Prekop I'm also pretty certain that Moloko - Statues is likely to get a listen before the day is out. |

I must be in a certain mood to listen to jazz... I think it's very atmospheric. Moloko's previous album 'Things To Make And Do' was excellent! Very different to the hit 'The Time Is Now' from the same record. Haven't heard their new stuff yet... Dug out Depeche Mode singles collection to treat myself... And my favourite Danish band 'Love Shop' has got a new album out ...

A less forgiving Moloko listener than myself might have you shot for basing your interest on that album. Things To Make and Do is their weakest album precisely because it ditched almost all vestiges of what was their original sound in favour of selling out to the club scene. Their first album (Do You Like My Tight Sweater) is a classic and established their original 'kooky electro pop' sound. They thinned it out for their second album (I Am Not The Doctor) but it still has some strong, familiar moments. Thing To Make & Do almost completely lost the plot. Big shame, though commercially a big success thanks their ability to reinvent themselves on the back of a hit club remix of one of their tracks. Many long term Moloko listeners bailed out. It seems that word must have gotten back, or they might have had the freedom to go back to their roots (due to the nest egg from TTM&D). Statues strikes what I feel to be a good blend of tracks that will appeal to both clubbers and those who missed the 'kookiness' of the first album. I highly recommend listening to Statues. It may suit your particular Moloko tastes. However, if you really want to understand what Moloko used to be (and can be again) you *really* need to listen to 'Do You Like My Tight Sweater'. I've great memories of that album- in particular, one summer when I was running a bar down in the Sussex countryside. I can't help but grin when I think of some of the things I got up to; a regular 'cheeky monkey'. Do You Like My Tight Sweater is wrapped up in all of that. It was a kooky time all round. btw, if you're ever after some jazz recommendations just give me the nod and I can crack off a recommended (imho) listening list of both 'modern' jazz (à la Thelonius Monk et al), contemporary jazz fusion (c/o the blinding Oslo jazz/electronica scene) and some very worthy latin jazz. |

Nice one, just downloaded it and love it! Stand out tracks for me at the moment are the jazzed up Day For Night and that trippy Where is the What if the What is in Why? Brilliant! I get what you mean about them reinventing themselves. It's a far cry from the Moloko I knew before this - Sing It Back still crops up on repeat play in my nightmares!! That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.
