This week I have most be mostly listening to...

Weekend Players - Pursuit of Happiness
(going out/being out music. Good getting ready music before you launch yourself on an unsuspecting evening.)

Guther - I Know You Know
(Morr Music, one of those labels that can't seem to put a foot wrong)

Turin Brakes - Ether Songs
(maybe not the genius some regard them as, but still a great listen)

Athlete - Vehicles & Animals
(I defy you not to want to opent the windows and sing the chorus to El Salvador out loud)

Just retired:

Thievery Corporation - Richest Man in Babylon
(well-deserved dusting off c/o the Lexus advert)

Cinematic Orchestra - Man With a Movie Camera
(already forgotten how it sounds so can't make a comment)

I thought the only great track on there was Royksopps I Don't Know What I Can Save You From. I do love Alfie and FourTet though so it got bonus points there.

I can't stop plays Schneider TM's Zoomer atm, inparticular Reality Check. Fantastic.

That's right. Not may people remember them - Morning Dove White is a great album.

I've just heard the one solo album from her - We Are Science - but I think she had her debut solo album before that.

Anyway, We Are Science is amazing, a real eclectic mix of styles. Well worth checking out.

Perfect Motion was their one and only hit wasn't it? Or did they manage to build a whole album around it??

Better on average than the title track, imo.

Much more presence from Emilliani Torrini who appears on a number of tracks incl. 'Until Morning Comes' (Lexus ad).

Also there's a more audible presence of brazilian vibes* that you'd expect from the ESL label.
(* always a winner with me)

The album sounds like three themed EPs brought together; Torrini tracks, brazilian tracks and dub tracks.
It works reasonably well together, but the brazilian and torrini stuff is the hook for me.

In case you're not familiar with Torrini it's worth checking out her album (a few years old now)-
Love In The Time Of Science.

Incidentally, the Richest Man... album makes for good (slow) wake-up music as I'm finding out right now.

Just gave it a condensed skim through...

It's nice enough. Nothing really outstanding and overstated, but then that's sympathetic to the KoC ethic.
Some remixes are more interesting than others, but then it's been a while since I heard 'Quiet is the New Loud' so I can't really recall how much of it is original track and how much is remix.

It's actually quite hard to shift the KoC sound too much due to the softly-softly style of vocals. Imho, the more successful and interesting remixes are those that play with the musical content more (Four Tet, Andy Votel, Alfie).

Worth checking out if you can lay you hands on a cheap copy.

mik: do you?

Thievery Corporation - I'm still bit confused... brazilian rythms do get on my nerves with time... but on the other hand there is the dub
---
Sunscreem made whole TWO albums...
1: Oł
2: Change or Die
I think they are both good although 'Oł' sounds a bit dated now... But I can't get tired of 'For Maddened Prophets' from Change or Die. Excellent track... it's one of those that 'build up' - it's long enough: 5:54...
They released a remix album couple of years ago but I haven't heard it.
