System of a Down - Toxicity A Fire Inside - Sing the Sorrow As my boss said to the Studio Manager job applicant the other day... "and this is where they play thrash and make websites" Not strictly true, but hey |

I've given Venice a listen and I was momentarily transported back to May 2001 and being slumped in a chair at a darkened Queen Elizabeth Hall, dozing contently with the sound of loud buzzing pouring into my ears. It's not to say that I don't necessarily like Fennesz stuff (anymore). In fact, it was one of the best concerts I've ever slept through. I just have to be in the right mood for it. I haven't heard Endless Summer (never thought to after my gradually decreasing interest in his earlier output), but the write-ups make it sound more accessible. Maybe I'll buy it on spec and see how I get on. - Just noticed that Vincent Gallo is doing performing his When album at the QE Hall on Monday. Guest accompanyists are Jim O'Rourke and Steve Shelley. As much as I dislike his films and the low opinion I have of him as a person - both of his albums (When and Recordings of Music for Films) have both been annoyingly good. Almost certainly likely to appeal to you SB. If you haven't already… Check out Greg Davis' albums Arbor and Curling Pond Wood. Might well appeal to you (being a Fennesz listener). btw, have you heard Vriion by Alva Noto + Ryuichi Skamoto? If so, what d'ya reckon? - Quote:
Must be something to do with the frequencies that makes me borderline narcoleptic. Last edited by Bill Posters : 03-04-2004 at 04:28. |

Having said that I've got a few good gigs lined up over the next month including The Futureheads, The Shins (The Stills supporting), Supergrass and Joy Zipper. Quote:
That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

Couldn't find a gap to go to any of them. little bit peeved about it. - Quote:
It's a similar duo setup to Noto & Sakamoto (microsound + piano) with Connors laying background postrock guitar distortions and sound effects over Grubbs' soft piano work. Both albums are fairly unstructured, but should go down well with anyone who doesn't mind a bit of that from time to time. Good moozik. |

You 3 might be interested to know I've just been sent Kim Hiorthøy's new EP (5 tracks so bit of a mini-album really) and it's top stuff. It's out end of may I think with an album to follow in the autumn. I love 'Hei' and he's up there on my list of people I'd like to have a beer with. If he comes to the UK promoting I might start pestering Smalltown Supersound for tickets. You might see me in London yet. Such a groupy. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.
