The Cold Blood original(*?) of Valdez… appears on more than one of latin jazz compilations that I have.
Needless to say it was thrown onto the HD as an MP3 early on where it still gets a regular outing when the mood suits.
(Latin jazz/jazz-funk is a bit of a fave of mine)

A cracking track and always a good listen.

You may have imspired me to make the soundtrack to my friday morning a Brazilian Jazz affair.

(* I understood that it was an original Cold Blood/Hathaway track from '76. )

Or not, as the case may be...

In tracking down some archived Latin-Jazz collections I was diverted towards:

Yonderboi - Shallow & Profound
Penguin Café Orchestra - When In Rome
AIM - Cold Water Music
Savath & Savalas - Folk Songs…
Thomas Newman - American Beauty Original Score
VA - Glücklich IV
VA- Talkin Inside The Beat

Well, looks like today's sorted for moozik then.

Yeah, the original is from Cold Blood. There's another Cold Blood cover ("Understanding") in this album "Viajecito" (I highly recommend it as I see you're interested in these moods). And also a cover from Blood, Sweat & Tears, "Pussy Cat". Black Sugar are easily even better than the bands which inspired them, and their original songs are even better than the covers to say the least. "Viajecito", the song which gives the title to this compilation (they only released two LPs, and most of the songs contained in them are here) is an instant classic since you hear it for the first time. A definition of what latin jazz-funk is in just one tune. Trust me, if you have the chance to buy it (or download it or whatever) just do so. If it dissapoints you, I'll post on my site a pic of me, naked and doing the funky chicken...
