This week oi av been mostly list'nin' to:

Sidsel Endresen+Bugge Wesseltoft - Out Here. In Here
(Oslo Jazz/electronica with delicate vocals)

Penguin Café Orchestra - Signs of Life
(instrumental. classical rhythmic structures with folk/ instruments)

Brokeback - Look at the Birds
(post rock [i think that's what it's called. I just call it 'good stuff'])

VA - Folky 2
(folk-tinged electronica incl. Gorodisch)

Philip Glass - Glassworks
(modern classicist who inspired a generation)

Nuspirit Helsinki - Nuspirit Helsinki
(nujazz)

Sigur Ros - ( )
(icelandic tundramental* post/avant rock)

Múm - (almost e/thing they've ever done)
(major session of everything i have from these Icelandic avant rock/idm-ers)

Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto - Vriion
(minimal/gltich meets modern classical/jazz piano)

* Did i just make up a new genre title?

---

Last few weeks it's been loads of vocal/guitar stuff like RHCP (By The Way), David Gray (A New Day At Midnight), Coldplay (A Rush of Blood To The Head), Johan (Pergola), The Shins (Oh, Inverted World).

I go through phases, shuttling back and forth between lively, 'sing-a-long out loud' guitar+vocal stuff and quieter, more 'intimate' electronica/jazz/folk-influenced instrumental.

The latter set is where my heart is.

I can't over-recommend stuff like Philip Glass, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Yann Tiersen (Le Phare, L'Absente, Amelie soundtrack).
Greatest stuff in the world to work to, imho.

Excellent, another VNV Person. It's amazing how many people know very little if nothing about their existence. Have you heard the Future Perfect album? If so, is it any good?

Standing has to be my all time fave atm. Had it playing at the birth of my son not so long ago!

Current CD Collection for today:

Rammstein :: Mutter
Mesh :: Trust You EP
VNV Nation :: Praise the Fallen
VNV Nation :: Empires
Apoptygma Berzerk :: 7

It's gonna be a dark day in the office today!

Saw VNV nation live once, fat bloke in black shorts. Was kinda funny. I tend to prefer oldschool industrial tho, the likes of Skinny Puppy, Mentallo & The Fixer, etc.

The new stuff is just too slick and commercial.

I need to get some more tunes onto my server at home!
Must dig out the assortment of VNV Nation, NIN, Ministry, Sheep On Drugs, Consolidated, Murder Inc., and RevCo CD's for my "Loud stuff" playlist.
Suppose the Orb, Orbital, Aphex Twin, Amorphous Androgynous and FSOL tunes would add to the "Mellow" playlist too.

And I'll have to ensure that "Clubbed to death" by Rob D, "Look to your orb..." by Monster Magnet, and "Dragula" by Rob Zombie are on the list too - best bits from the Matrix soundtrack by far

And I want to get some Boards of Canada stuff too - not got anything of theirs yet, but keep hearing good recommendations...

radio 1 GAHHH!!!!!! Makes me want to throw the radio into a bath of water.

Self serving celebrity arse licking fools.

We have an old Mac Performa 6400 as an MP3 jukebox. Everyone has about 200 tracks on it making up roughly 2 1/2 constant days of music.

I currently like roots manuva and various other mainly rap stuff, but i also like heavier stuff, ive got the new anthrax CD and Pains cover of elenor rigby is hella cool.

Shouldn't that be KMFDM™?

Kylie Minogue Fans Don't Masturbate (That Much)

Oli, the Aphex Twin (singular) track/video you are thinking of is 'Come To Daddy' (1997).
The promo video is by Chris Cunningham.

Cheers Bill, I seem to remember that it won some kind of award which is why I remember it.
I think the same guy did one for Afrika Bambaata with a guy walking along and bits of his feet & legs start snapping off like they are frozen! good stuff anyway.

Close.

Afrika Shox by Leftfield.

Chris Cunningham directed a fair number of promos for prominant underground(ish) artists incl. Björk, Squarepusher, Autechre...

Here's a list I found through Google. I don't think it's complete as it only lists up to the Afrika Shox video in 1999.

Here's another which also covers some of his ad and film work:

It's funny... most of the designers I know listen to Techno or Industrial... or a mixture of the two. I don't think I've met one that listens to Britney Skank or one of those pre-fabricated bands on the market that the kids these days seem to enjoy. >_<

I checked out VNV at a show here in Toronto last year... VERY good live. I wasnt too impressed with Future Perfect... I think they cleaned all the tracks a little excessively... it's almost over-produced to the point that it's annoying.
VNV just has that positive feel to it... makes working more tolerable once you've thrown on 'Standing' or 'Kingdom'... makes me WANT to face annoying clients hehe.

Oldschool Skinny Puppy is ALWAYS a favourite... Ogre is tha man. Ohgr was nice to see arrive on the scene... got to love 'Cracker'... anyone that can create a song to mock Reznor of NIN and make a video that blatantly knocks him, is ok in my books.

'So why do I love when I still feel pain
when does it end, when is my work done.
Why do I fight... and why do I feel
that i carry a sword through a battlefield.

AWESOME song. VNV is great to listen to playing ANY FPS I find... kick ass and dont look back. o.o

Yup, I have Neuroblastoma and Fun With Knives... both great cd's.

Haujobb is another favourite to listen to, as well as Wumpscut and Front Line Assembly... staples of any industrial listeners collection. ^^
