Anyone compose their own music?

I'm a huge music fan and write music on the guitar and compose tracks on the computer.

Just wondering if it's a common thing among designers..?

Nice one Paddy. Reminds me a lot of video game music, but I'm guessing with titles like "end game" and "final stage" maybe that's what you're aiming for.

I really like your stuff. Reminds me a lot of old Funeral For A Friend stuff and there's a bit of Millencolin in there too. Love it! Do you tour?

That's great Paddy. Have you tried selling some of this stuff via Netlabels, etc? Your stuff beats a lot of some fo the music I've heard recently.

I'm very much into experimental music from artists like Akufen and Boards of Canada.

Have a listen to my MySpace page (you knew there'd be a plug didn't you! ;0)

myspace.com/john_faulkner (sorry, can't post the full URL yet as I am a newbie) I love producing mash-ups.

I do, but I'm only two years into guitar. I've been writing lyrics and tabs for my stuff though.

I got a new song up. It's called Fast Lane and it's a soft ambient tune with a gentle melody.

Paddy Duke on Virb.com

Check it out!

Just thinking of all my friends that are designers, they all play at least one instrument. I play classical guitar & lute and compose for both. I use Allegro on the mac to produce scores...

Another yes from me. Had a nice little studio setup when I was in England but didn't bring it with me so now I'm down to a digital 8-track (which is still pretty nice) and a couple of guitars.

Sad thing is I find it really hard to find the time anymore.

Someone mentioned order so for me it was design first (first full-time design job in '85), then music (electronic in '91 using OctaMed on two Amigas, started playing guitar around '93 and started a band pretty much straight away), then Web design ('97).

I started creating music on ft2, and other dos trackers (but mainly ft2). I never played guitar, or any other 'real' instrument. Here is a list of software I used in last 10 years:

ft2
skale tracker
jeskola buzz
renoise
rebirth
reborn (rebirth for linux)
reason
reaktor
max/msp
jmax (max/msp for the java platform)
cubase
ableton live
lsdj

+some audio editors, vst's, trackers, and sequencers that I used episodically.
