Dorian, which programme did you use in the end? I don't have any copy protected stuff but I have Isobuster so should the need arise in future...

One thing that puzzles me is, how can any CD be completely copy proof? The fact is, if you can hear it you can copy it. If you buy or build the right cable (as I have) you can play a CD (or LP)from your hifi into your computer as an analogue signal, and then copy it digitally using software such as Nero. Granted, the copy won't be exactly 1 to 1, but the result will still be pretty good.

They can't. There are many types, some work better than others but most can be overcome. Incidentally, many copy protected disks are not actually classed as CDs as they dont comply with the Red book standard (http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/...503642,00.html).

I've not had any problems copying apparently protected cd on my mac, i'd certainly take the disk back to the shop if I did though. Blah, blah principles...etc

This is true, and a subject that is often ranted about on a hifi forum I use. Until recently, Some of the discs wouldn't play on some expensive players (ie Naim - see THIS THREAD ). Shops/mail order firms are obliged to give a full refund on such discs if the buyer wishes.

I'll have to get one and kick up a stink somewhere...

Sean

really? The only way I could get round the crazy copy protection (ive got mac and pc at home) was to play the albumn using the ridiculous embedded media player and record the output into cool edit, then rip the mp3s manually... i know a load of people complained so maybe the changed it?

I had to do that with the Neptunes "Clones" album, what a pain, you go to all the effort of buying a perfectly legal cd and end up ripping it and copying it (excluding the ridicolous media player).
