electronic

looking for more 'alternative' electronic decent artists...any recommendations?

Discovered Four Tet a few weeks ago who is quality...more stuff like that please.

also listening to cornelius...but he's a bit mental, so I'm looking for more calm stuff.

Boards of canada are ok, but not a huge fan.

Bonobo...nae bad I suppose. bit wishywashy

Cinematic Orchestra - these are quite original - live instruments...can get on your nerves after a bit though

Amon Tobin - good stuff.
Tosca - ditto

anyway...you get the idea - good stuff that I can do work to, but not too cheesy.

cheers guys....there's a few names on there I recognise.
Forgot about Prefuse 73 - I love some of their stuff
Plaid & manitoba as well
That Broadcast are interesting...need to check out more of their tracks
Hey that band - The Notwist are playing here in Toronto tomorrow night...so they are pretty good then? the venue is just about 10 mins from where I live I think.
There's a free music paper here and I noticed their name in the event section yesterday.

Consider the The Notwist Neon Golden recommendation seconded and thirded

I have a sweet, little special edition of that on double 3" CD.

While we're on Notwist, add Tied and Tickled Trio's Observing Systems album to the list (T&TT is another of the overlap projects from Notiwst/Lali Puna/Ms John Soda/et al).

Incidentally, SB. Take a listen of some of Notwist's early stuff.
Show's you just how much they've shifted - for the better I hasten to add.

Also, check out their more recent soundtrack to the short film 'Lichter'. V nice.

Also, check out I Know You Know by Guther if you get the chance. Another great album that will grow on you like Lali Puna/Notwist.

Another must have is The Academic Rise of Falling Drifters which is a remix album of Giardini di Miro's The Rise and Fall of Academic Drifters.
Remixers incl. Styrofoam, Hermann & Klein, ISAN, Dntel and Opiate and makes for a great post-rock vs electronica listen.

In case you don't already know to look, you should buy *everything* released by Morr Music and 99.999% of everything on Leaf Label

Chips, you could do alot worse than pick up the outstanding compilation: Pro Bono Publico which has ISO68, Kim Hiorthøy, PanAmerican and Corker/Conboy.
Similarly, Writers Without Homes by Piano Magic is worth owning.

You should definitely go. I read they're touring North America with "Themselves", an excellent underground hip-hop group if you havent heard of them.

The Notwist started out as a kind of post-punk band and slowly moved into electronica. They've been taking a break for a couple of years but their keyboardist/programmer Martin Gretschmann, a.k.a. Console has been making a few excellent albums in the meantime that are worth a listen. They've also just released an EP - Different Cars and Trains - which has Four Tet and Manitoba tagteaming 'This Room'.

Another one to grab is Blue Skied an' Clear an excellent double album from indie/elec/tronic artists incl. Future3, ISAN, Lali Puna, Solvent, Styrofoam, Múm, Manual.

The first CD is a collection of 15 Slowdive covers all of which work for me.
The second CD contains another 13 original tracks by the artists who appeared as remixers on CD1.
The entire CD1 is cracking as far as I'm concerned.
CD2's outstanding moment is Ulrich Schnauss' Wherever You Are which afaik never appeared anywhere other than this album.
It's a brilliant, brilliant track. Beautiful, driven and the perfect blend of synth washes, vocals, drums and electronica.

Must have (if you don't already)
