Only problem is, it's at the Appollo in Manchester - not the best venue in the world. We're in seats too which aren't very condusive to jumping around like a loon.

Anyway, like my ol' mum always says - "You ain't in, until you've seen Just-in". Or something like that.

I dont think much of their music either - the bastard child of Queen and Spinal Tap at best. I rate them up (or down) there with all the other media-hyped acts that come to the forefront of the musical world... and usually disappear once they something new becomes the in thing.

They're a joke band really, only they're not funny. Get the Bad News and Spinal Tap dvds, a copy of the Tenacious D album and see how it should be done.

It's strange - because of their popularity across the agegroups and genres, they've been considered a media-hyped, manufactured, joke band.

At the end of the day it's all taste. I hope they do manage to break away from the hype though, take some time off and come back with a deserving 2nd album.

Oh and yeah, Sex Farm - genius!

i don't think they're manufactured at all, infact they're anything but. I know folks that went to see them a fair while before the hype started and they were doing the same thing back then. But, they came across as just another mediocre band, almost a tribute to the spandex pomp rock bands that had gone before. Its not until the media picked them up that the ball really started rolling.

I wish them luck too - at the end of the day they do what they enjoy and people like them...and theres a lot to be said for that.

A guy on a music message board I go to had this to say about The Darkness, this might make fan's blood boil but I found it amusing...Someone started a thread on The Darkness claiming not to "get" their appeal, some Darkness bashing ensued and that is what the first part of the post is mentioning...

"I'm so pleased to read this, 'cos over here in the UK, the Darkness are about the biggest thing going on at the moment in music except for Busted, who I would definitely torture slowly except that it would mean they lived just that little bit longer in the process.

I just do not understand what it is about the Darkness that people are going crazy about. Is it some kind of mass discovery of Irony? Yes, they are a **** band playing **** songs in a **** style. WHY does this make them somehow good? They're not "so bad, they're good", they're "so bad I'd rather cut my ears off and post them to my worst enemy with a signed 'apologies' card written out in my own blood, then go out and forge a career for myself as a non-choosy rent boy than listen to this heavy-handed overrated wannabe bunch of soft-rock braindead arseholes." It's like nobody remembers Sweden's premier soft-rock band Europe, for God's sake. Come on people! Wise up! Get a life! They're not funny or big or clever, just rubbish. They are one of those phenomena that makes me hate and pity mankind for worshipping not just idols that are false, but idols that are so completely lacking in anything to do with heart and soul that we might as well all hang ourselves from the nearest lamppost now because, if we as a species are to be judged cometh the day of reckoning, they will surely be one of the biggest negatives in that "minus" column that leads to us all living a life of eternal fiery damnation. This "Oh, but they're so ironic" thing really gets on my nerves. So it's OK to think a band that are crap and know they're crap are actually cool because they know their deficiencies? No! It's wrong, and it makes you retarded for even thinking half as much of them as you do. They suck. That's it. S-U-C-K. I cannot say it any plainer. They are not funny, or entertaining, or witty, or ironic. They are a great big steaming turd left on the street corner by a particularly malnourished and methane-prone dog. That's all they are, that's all they'll ever be. Period. Fact. I have broken wind and the resulting stench has had more talent than this sad bunch of wannabe Spinal Tap-bandwagon-jumping local inbred parasites. Just say no, kids. Please. Before the singer peels off his face to reveal Satan's smiley face and tells you that actually the joke's on you, because anyone who ever bought so much as a compilation album with a track of theirs on it is going to Hell for a very, very long eternity, I urge you to repent and give the CD to someone you really and truly hate. It's the only way to save yourselves."

As far as I'm concerned they *are* the usual tripe in the charts.

have to agree - their first hit had a certain "engagement / wedding party" thing going on.

the much anticipated christmas single was utter bollox and having heard "the album" as brown would say "theres nothing to see - move on"

i can see why theyre popular, but theyre basically an amalgamation of 70s hair bands with a bit of Spinal Tap thrown in.
Theyre an amusing diversion from the usual RnB tat or faceless pop girly but i cant see where they go next unless they become a distillation of 80s new romantics and then 90s happy house.

theyre OK, but VERY, VERY mediocre
