Load of bulls balls. About time Macca did some new stuff rather than rehasting the old classics. Not like he needs the cash! That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

OK, Naked is allegedly what Let It Be should of sounded like in the first place removing every last trace of Spector. Given the troubles the Beatles were having at the time Let It Be was supposed to be the album that reunited the band by returning to The Beatles' roots, simple music. Given that at the time they were hardly speaking, this was never going to happen. After it was recorded Lennon thought it was the "shittiest load of badly recorded shit". No-one was interested in Let It Be, including Paul, John, George and Ringo. After Spector produced Instant Karma for Lennon he was hired to save the album. He was given five days. Lennon loved the result and subsequently hired Spector to work on the amazing Imagine, McCartney hated it, though that didn't stop him collecting the Oscar it won in 1971 for best film score. Spector made Let It Be as wonderous as anything The Beatles had ever produced. My main issue with Naked is the quality of the songs. Songs that Spector made great, Two Of Us, Long Winding Road, I've Got A Feeling are now exposed as truly second rate. There's no magic and the result is another unnecessary denuding of The Beatles' mystique. Andrew Parker

much better. although i really have to disagree with your comments on 'two of us' and 'i've got a feeling'. there's nothing that spectre added to either of these tracks that wasn't originally recorded in the studio, please let me know how spectre made them *great* or, take the beans out of your ears. the long and winding road however is a totally different track on the new release. it has a totally different feeling to it. its has much more feeling and is subsequently less of a beatles anthem. some might say it sounds lame but to me it accentuates the magic of john's piano playing and ringo's piss poor drumming. |

You can really tell a song's strength when stripped down to the bare essentials. If a song is good it will stand on it's own with a minimalist production. I prefer a more minimalist approach to music and I've always thought that when you had layers and layers of slick production in your music you must be hiding something. |

listen to Pains version of Eleanor Rigby IMHO better than the Beatles version. Much like Gypsy Kings version of Hotel California is better than the original. //edit i cant post the Gypsy Kings track too if anyones interested. btw, ive done the MP3 at a fairly low bitrate so that its reasonably smallish. |
