So who owns the music anyway? You or them? They do. You bought nothing. You bought the right to play their song on their product.

I agree with this guy's response:

Most of what you say is correct, or arguably correct, but my iPod only contains MP3s without DRM, mostly ripped from my own CDs. I don't like the iTunes store either - doesn't preclude me from owning and enjoying an iPod.

Although he said he didn't own one, I don't think he said anything bad about owning and enjoying an ipod did he?

that comment about buring itunes files to cd and then ripping as non-drm'd mp3s is a load of shit. i tried it in the past and the result is worse than listening to a warped 78.

CD's all the way. I bought 9 on Sunday afternoon - I blame guilt for downloading so much

Yeah, I brought this subject up with a friend and he said, "You know you can rip a DRM file to MP3, right? Why you hatin'!"

I don't know that that's true, but I just said - why should I pay for something that's essentially the same price as a song on a higher quality CD and already in a lossy format and re-compress it into another lossy format when I could just go one step - CD to variable bitrate MP3?

Sigh, fanboys.

The basic laws of compression make it obvious that ripping a lossy mp3 to a CD, and then ripping it back isn't going to magically make that mp3 higher quality... if anything you will lose more of the original recording in the process as the software distorts the original levels.

Bloody feckless i-tunes users.
