Insane drumming

http://www.flomounier.com/videos/Flo...mSolohigh.html

Especially the last bit just after he slows down. Now, I listen to Cryptopsy and know how amazing he is, but that still made my jaw drop.

Nice Parradiddles and nice triplets on the bass drums! Still prefer Bonham though.

I'm sorry but I'm not keen on that at all. Like briljant oranje said... "sounds shit".

I can appreciate that he's bloody talented... but he's taken the groove and any melody out of the instrument, regardless of the amount of double bass playing and cymbal lark at the beginning of that clip. Perhaps he's more appropriate when he plays on tracks... I dunno...

When he's playing super fast, he sounds like a machine. But then I wouldn't go into a factory and listen machine noise all day would I?

haha the end part well looks like its being played at double time.

Seemed more like he was playing the drums for a track rather then it being a solo.

Its from an instructional DVD, and part of a longer piece I think.

How can a mostly atonal instrument have melody?

And drumming isn't always about groove. When he actually plays in the band, he combines traditional extreme metal drumming techniques (blastbeats and the like) with Jazz and Latin patterns. Its amazing.

If anyone happened to have the old Apollo 440 album, Getting High On Your Own Supply, it had a video of their drummer Paul Kodish on it. Now that is some drumming. I'll dig it out and put it online. Much that I love metal/hardcore, metal drumming needs the guitars and vocals to sound anything other than noise, which is what that sounded like to me. Still, to be fair with the guy, he's obviously got a bit of talent. Don't know who he is but would be interested to hear him as part of a band.

Might be hard to listen to if you don't like death metal though. You have been warned

Just listened to Cryptopsy_OWN_Adeste.mp3

Not impressed. I don't mind hard rock but when its like this it just sounds messy to me.

LOL. Its hardly "hard rock"

Death metal isn't for everyone. Never will be. It doesn't sound messy to me, but I can see how others would see it that way. Its also a genre that varies wildly in terms of technical execution, ranging from sloppy to tight as a gnats arse. Cryptopsy, drumming aside, are somewhere in the middle. I still love them though. Bloodbath (mp3s - listen to Ways To The Grave) are another favorite but are completely different - an old school, early 90s death metal sound with a completely different guitar tone and a lot tighter than Cryptopsy, but then, a lot simpler musically.

The greek student next doors loves Death Metal and like most Death Metal fans, he feels the need to turn the volume to 11 so it is audible to anyone within a 50 radius. When I hear this music I find it makes me laugh because it sounds so ridiculous and the lyrics are crap.

Great drumming, no doubt, but so what ?
