I'm interested in animating 3D shapes within After Effects, and was wondering if any of you guys had experience in that area?

The new Channel 4 idents are a great example of the type of thing I'm talking about.

Looking to find out which would be the best programmes to use alongside After Effects to create these effects.

As always, any nuggets of wisdom appreciated. Preferably gold ones.

Isn't it just an alpha layer? with the transparency created in the 3D program and imported in, animations are all done in 3D programs I think. Could be wrong, maybe they've added 3D now..
