Difference between "Animation" and "Motion Graphics"?
This has been puzzling me for some time.. I've done a lot of research on the web, but found nothing - so I decided to approach some experts for their opinions. What's the difference between Animation and Motion Graphics? Is it to do with the way the work is produced? Or maybe it's the content of the work? Maybe there is no difference? At the moment, I am starting to think that motion graphics could be referred to as "animated graphic design", and that animation is more akin to the work of illustrators, than that of graphic designers. What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. |

I'm sorry, I don't think I understand your point.. I was trying to ask a question - did I do it wrong? I'm new here. If anyone has any thoughts on this matter, I'd love to hear them. |

Thanks d*d, I'm just starting out, so it's nice to know there are helpful people in this industry! I wonder if animation is about creating the illusion of life, while motion graphics in general is more of a graphic design thing? Anybody have any ideas? |

. Actually, I think bn86 is pretty close to right. Motion Graphics are a type of Animation. As the name implies, "motion graphics" is generally only used when your talking about typography, logos, and the like. Examples: (Hmmm... at the moment, the YouTube embed tag doesn't seem to be working, so I'm also going to include the links.) Straight motion graphics: Animation: Mix of Rotoscoping Animation with a Motion Graphics closing: And some things blur the line: . Last edited by Chris_G : 22-02-2009 at 22:22. |
