Update 1 New version to take a look at! Quote:
------------------------- Just a little background, I'm in my family's company, Colorado Brothers, which does not have a formal logo quite yet. This post is not for Colorado Brother's logo, however. I'm just pointing this out to answer that question in case it happens to be asked. I created a personal logo for myself just for fun. I do most of the Web Design and Development work for Colorado Brothers. Logo design isn't in my skillset since most of my Web Design customers already have a logo. That said, here's what I got: coloradobrothers.com/hexel/logo.png (Couldn't post image itself because lack of posts) I've included the foreground color and reversed color versions in the URL. Let me know what you guys think. Last edited by Hexel C : 30-12-2011 at 20:15. Reason: New Version of Logo |

That's definitely something I was thinking about, although I wasn't sure if it mattered. Changes made, although may or may not have to make it even bigger: coloradobrothers.com/hexel/logo2.png |

![]() For those of you looking for a good CMS, try:
Ionize CMS - nothing to do with me but a fucking brilliant, comprehensive CMS which uses a MYSQL database. GetSimple CMS - still nothing to do with me but this comprehensive CMS doesn't need a database. Monstra CMS - again, nothing to do with me but this is a clean and simple, lightweight CMS. Sitecake - you guessed it (nowt to do with me) but this CMS is a simple, neat inline content editing system. |

Sort the kerning out firstly, the tails of the X look quite thick. I still don't like that Colorado. Looks a bit strange with the H that wide, obviously its bigger but seems to throw the balance out. Could you counteract that with a larger L? |

Changes made once again. 2 versions this time. What you guys think now? coloradobrothers.com/hexel/logo3.png EDIT: I just realized the top right version has the x a bit misaligned. I'll make a fix to that. |

First one is better, just drop the Colorado idea, it isn't working. The L is way too heavy though (the H is a little heavy too but not as bad) Kerning is still out, look at the space between the H and E and then the E and L (and look at the space between the X tails and the letters beside them) |

Okay, with much dissapointment I decided to just drop the Colorado. I may decide to revisit this months later to find some way to get my family name in there after I've let the image settle in my brain for a while but for now I don't want to change it too much just to get it in nicely. Anyways, shifting things around here and there, got all the vertical and horizontal space betweeen letters and wings the same. It looks to me a bit too spacey although it looks less so the more I look at it. I may not have implemented the above ideas enough so take a look and tell me what you guys think: coloradobrothers.com/hexel/logo4.png EDIT: I accidently made the logo smaller than it should be, I'll fix that in a jiffy, so this edit will be irrelevant in a second. |

I think the X needs a little more attention. In my opinion the diagonal should be consistant from top left to bottom right and vice versa. At the moment the angle changes in order to facilitate the logo ascenders, which messes up the balance a bit. I'd also bring everything in 2 or 3 pixels tighter. |

They are currently 7 pixels apart. I think I can bring them a bit closer. Quote:
I'm going to have to admit your right. After a lot of changes suggested and made yesterday, I looked at it finally and plugged into a design I was working on and realized that it really looked off. I'm thinking of using a different font style, for example something slightly cursive or handwritten (but only slightly), something to get it out of the block-y format it's currently in, while still keeping the principles discussed. What do you guys think? The logo is only about three days old by now and it's my own personal project so it can be changed further. |

Dead thread post! Quote:
So I started over and came up with this coloradobrothers.com/hexel/logo_v2.png (still can't attach picture, gah!) After revising and revising it for a long while (It took my soooo long to get that x to look right. I made it from scratch with the bezier pen) it may still look incomplete. But my eyes have gotten use to it so they haven't gone back to critical mode yet. But rather than wait for who knows how long for my eyes to sober up, what do you guys think? Lol well I'm glad to know you have a sense of humour. Anyways, I can understand if you think it looks ridiculous, but I'll have nowhere to "move on" to with this if I don't have something specific. |
