Logo Test Concepts
During the winter break I'm trying to come up with new a new logo/layout for my portfolio site. Now that I'm really much more of a threat to the business world (with graphic design abilities and software engineering) I'd like to redo my site. Especially since the current one got so much flak for it's design. However, I feel like I may be approaching this the wrong way. I think maybe it's better to make the layout first, then the logo, but I'm drawing blanks on layout concepts. I know I want it to be simplistic, and I'm trying to get the logo to reflect it. I'm also having a conflict about the name of the site. I think ERICENTRIC is clever -- it's like egocentric but with my name in it. But at the same time, I really want to just promote ERIC HORODYSKI, so I don't know if I should do some fancy shmancy typography stuff for my name to use as a faux logo, or use my initials to make a cool shape, or use ERICENTRIC. Attached is a bunch of attempts I've done in the past couple days. Criticize them all you want, I don't expect any of them to be winners. Especially bad are the ones that overemphasize my middle name, but I felt that was needed to balance out the fact that if you have a short first name, you have a long last name (and vice versa, check it out, life works like that mysteriously). My personal favorite is the second row (not counting the word ERICENTRIC as a row) -- probably the second one. Anyway, thanks for any advice, ideas and constructive criticism. Edit: Added some new attempts, squarish ones. Still not thrilled AT ALL with any of them, but I can't sleep anyway and I figure if I at least try I'll get it eventually, but if I don't work on it at all, I'll just eventually lose any thoughts I had at all. Use it or lose it, eh? Last edited by MrD : 02-01-2010 at 03:29. |

Thanks Mandy Moo! I was thinking if I used my first and middle name, it would even out with my last and I could even it out (make it squarish) with my last. But yeah, I think for a resume/portfolio site that isn't really for freelance as much as it is an online reference to get me a job I should probably just stick with the name. |

Well, here's an attempt with [s]one[/s] some font(s). Let me know of what you think. I think Diavlo looks great with my name, but I'm kinda spent for the night with my name. I'll try some more stuff tomorrow. 1) Is the font good? 2) How's the upper/lowercase design? 3) Does it have that specialness? I used the triangle inside the K and I. I thought it was a good idea, but let me know what you all think. It's only using Avenir, I still need to pick out other fonts. I had Kontrapunkt in mind, but it looks bad in application. 1) Is the font good? - its okay 2) How's the orientation? (upper/lowercase design) - ?! 3) Does it have that specialness? - for my feeling, no sorry, no one has that specialness. If you love your job, set more creativity in your workflow and if not, use the first one |
