another logo crit...

hi folks

newbie to this forum, freelancing for 3 years under the same brand and
think its time for a refresh. Id appreciate your feedback on the following.

The top sans serif logo is my existing look, which i think id like to get away from and try and make it look a bit more fun?! Im also not sure whether i should loose the 'creative' so the main logo is just kancho?

ive added the image as an attachement, as the forum doesnt let u link to external sites straight away?! - Let me know if u cant see anything?

What do people think?

cheers

I don't think you're making the logo more fun, infact it's the opposite. The original logo is better. The speech bubble in the 'o' of Kancho doesn't go with the serif text, the style of the text distract from it.

Well I'm a sucker for Clarendon, so I'd definitely say the bottom one is best Although I do agree that the speech bubble in the 'o' doesn't really work - I like the idea, but it's barely noticeable, and I'm not sure how relevant it is(?)

I'd consider maybe making "creative" smaller, in the same way you have in your existing logo, or maybe just reduce it enough so that both words are the same width. I think visually, it might look better if you got rid of the word "creative", but I think "Kancho Creative" kind of sounds better.

I really like the chunky clarendon (though it might be a tad overused right now it still looks very nice), the previous one reminds me of Sliders and looks pretty dated, or at least looks wrong as a creative agency/freelancer's identity, for a tech company or something maybe.

And yeah I didn't even register the speech bubble until I read robin's post so it either needs more emphasis or stripping out entirely... not seeing the relevance either.

its a nice font, but lacks as a "logo" either something thats more a mark, or a more custom version of the font.

The second one looks like the type of logo you'd see on a dishwasher or something.

"Kancho"? Really?
Your brand is named after a Japanese kid's game centered around stabbing your pals in the ass with your fingers?

i know i know!!

i know all about kancho being a fingers up the arse japanese game thank you jeffc!!!

Ive done karate since i was little and kancho is a term used for head of school or top instructor so when i set up my freelance it seemed like a good idea to call myself kancho, it was only later on that i discovered the other meaning!!
but hey i dont mind its a conversational piece, ive even got a disclaimer on my website!!

back on subject ive moved away from my obsession with clarendon and am now head over heals with avant garde which is currently being used in my rebrand. ill repost when ive sorted the new logo. cheers all
