I'm new to this forum and new to logo design. So, I'm looking for advice on what I can do to improve the design I have for a website which will sell bulbs. The tag line is 'the one click bulb fix' and that describes what the website is aiming to achieve, its purpose is to make repeat purchases of speciality bulbs as simple as a single click.

I've basically used MS Word, a font I purchased from myfonts.com and two symbols. The first symbol is a 'repeat' sign and the other symbol adds a 'light emitting' effect. After reading about logos, I've tried to make the logo as simple as possible.

I'm flexible regarding colours, I've used red, black and white because it stands out a lot, but I've been reading different colours create different emotions. Some advice on colour would be great.

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?

not bad looking logo in my opinion, but im not quite sure we get the idea that that is a repeat sign. As for the light effect part, I would go more for a lightbulb shape with that light effect part so it would be more obvious thats its a lightbulb.

I have to say that is the most amazing logo I've seen that's been made by someone who just bought some fonts (or even knew to buy fonts!) and did it in Word.

I have to say it's still unfortunately quite weak as a logo, but A* for your first attempts and initiative.

The type is ok, needs kerning but I don't think you can do that in word. The little arrow bulb thing looks very clipartish, and is dragging it down, if you're not going to get a designer to do it for you, I'd stick with just doing a purely typographic option without any bulb/graphic elements, maybe try a more light/energy related colour for the text than black and red though.

All in all well done, but still not really sure what advice I can give you, Word isn't a design program and you've done well to get it this far.

hi bluesage.... the idea of the repeat sign was to depict the idea that the site is supposed to make repeat orders for speciality bulbs easy. and the reason why i'm trying to avoid having a lightbulb shape is i'd like to be able to sell other things in the future, other than bulbs. but the idea should remain the same that its focussed on making repeat orders simple.

hi Maerk... i intend to use paint.net to make this look better. i've not done kerning before but i'll read up on it, but for now, i'm using ms paint and ms word just to get some ideas across. btw, i don't have a clue what colours are more light/energy related? does blue and yellow sound okay?

i've messed about with ms paint again, and here's what i've done. sorry but the font now looks messed up but if you can kindly ignore that what do you think of the logo now?

Don't overcomplicate things. The logo should be flexible, not just for use online. Why not try the lamp illustration at the right hand side of the text.

I'd still just ditch the idea of any sort of little illustration next to it personally, right now it's arrows and a light thing extremely dated style and not very fresh, using arrows as a suggestion of motivation and repeat and success and whatever is just very hammy and overused. The only strong use of an arrow that springs to mind is in the FedEx logo really.

And anything more complex in style than what you're trying is probably beyond what you can learn quickly.

The issue with doing anything in paint is that you're losing the ability to keep it flexible as a format :/

Colourwise yes, perhaps blues, yellows oranges. Red and black comes across as quite hostile to me.

I don't really know how good any of the free open source image editing programs are but I'd suggest you try them out, as they're all bound to be better than using paint and word.

paint.net is pretty good, for a free image editing tool. I use it sometimes when I dont want to open up photoshop and just resize an image or crop one.

Out of the three new ideas, I prefer the second one. But I agree with Maerk on the idea to have it be just text based.

Color wise, maybe yellow and green ? or green and blue ? those colors seem to be used by certain energy / electric providers.

It looks a little blah right now. Agreeing with Maerk...ditch simple illustration because it's not working. I would play around with innovative typography.
