My Personal Logo Conundrum & Crtiques
First of all, I've always wanted my logo to have something to do with keywords such as "new", "organic", "green". Since I wasn't able to come up with any good ideas directly regarding the name of my site, "Inkflare", I went ahead with the aforementioned idea. So if you happen to have any cool ideas for a different type of logo, by all means, tell me. It also might help to know that this is for a web design company. My Personal Logo Conundrum & Crtiques The main point of my posting here, however, is that I cannot decide between two iterations of the logo and either way, I would be happy. So a) Which do you think I should use? b)Why? and c) Do you have any suggestions? This one has the name and the logo in one piece. ![]() This one has the name separate from the logo. ![]() |

In your second design, inkflare looks a lot better due to the better kerning. I also think that the "l" in the first design is way too styled... secon design best, if you remove the the sprouting bean.... but, I dont really feel like the organic green look fits to the name "Inkflare"... "Inkflare" sounds more dark and agressive to me... |

I'm with Jono in that I think you really mean flair, not flare. I hope you haven't bought any domains yet. I think the new version is actually a bit of a step backwards. It's a style that has become a bit over used in recent times. It reminds me a lot of the logos for sites like krop and Veer, and also the Unilever brand. I quite liked the typography of the second image you posted and in my opinion you should be working to develop that idea further. Maybe take the theme in a slightly different direction. The ‘ink’ part of the name has a lot of connotations you could work with. |

First of all, I hadn't heard of Krop until today so I checked it out and it looks like a really useful link, thanks On the other hand, the reason I chose flare over flair is tied to my original school of thought. Well here was my thought process for coming up with the name and why I think flare fits better: What is the heart of Design? I think the heart of design is, after sitting for a few hours with a blank notebook open staring across the street at random passerby, the sudden burst of creativity that sparks an influx of sketching into that same notebook. The Random House Unabridged Dictionary states: Quote:
So "flare" fits the sudden burst and "ink" fits the sketching and when you put the two together, you get "inkflare". The reason why I went with the now-not-so-uncommon(thanks for the headsup) script feel to the type is because it is
However, I do understand that the nature of using just a script type will cause other logos to look similar. I am working on an accompanying, yet separate, simple, illustration/mark. |

New one is no good. There are too many script logotypes floating around already. In particular, it reminds me of veer.com's logo. Make sure when designing to ask yourself whether the logo is good enough to hold up being in one color and at a small size. If the answer is yes to both, you're on to something. |
