Does anyone know the history of the AOL logo? Why was that symbol chosen to be the logo?

Originally the logo for America Online was just an O in an A, now they've tweaked it with a slight rotation to look like a "Play" button with an obligatory gradient, etc. Pants.

Does anyone know how and why the little yellow guy is used? Where did he come from?

That's AIM's logo...(yes I know it's an AOL product) But since he's running maybe it's summat to do with fast messaging etc etc

frankly i think the new logo looks like crap. Photoshop like gradients make it very hard to stare at...its as if i was looking at an extremely obese woman in bikini. IMO the original had was simply and had a unique style.
