client scoping for logos
I have to design a logo and then later some branded artifacts for a uni project. I don't do much print stuff. We make up the client and brief but, as with web projects, are there some specific questions you'd always ask the client in a kind of scoping questionaire? That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.

Number of colours the logo/identity is going to appear in (i.e. will the logo *have to* work in black-only? This often comes down to budget, at least when it comes to using the logo/identity in self-sourced material. Some companies will cough out for full-colour stationery, some won't. How well does the logo perform at larger and smaller sizes? Logos (read: properly designed logos) will often have alternative, tweaked versions specifically to be used above or below a certain size. Complex logos will become confused and inky at smaller sizes, so reduced, distilled alternatives will often be produced that can be used in those instances. Kerning, letterspacing and line-height often require tweaking at larger/smaller sizes to avoid excessive whitespace/crushing. A good logo will bear these considerations in mind and will be something that doesn't require in-depth rethinking in order to work at other sizes. There are more points, but that's my ˘2 |

Cheers bill. All good stuff. As far as finding out how more about the company (or whatever) would you use similar questioning as you would for a website? ie What they want the typical viewers reaction to be How they want to be represented etc I'm thinking as you're creating a brand, it has to go deeper than I normally would. Does that make sense? It's too early. That's fuckin' ingenious, if I understand it correctly. It's a Swiss fuckin' watch.
