A client asked me to produce a toy from one of the characters I designed. I have no idea where to start. Are there any threads on this topics or any toy designers I can turn to?

hmm i'd start by contacting some toy manufacturers. Look for them on alibaba.com Get in touch with them, explain and see what they can do

If it's soft toys you're looking for we had these one offs hand made by Tokyo based BUNNYBISSOUX < for a very reasonable fee.
