Funny how different people see different things. In emil's I see a busy New York style side walk.

It was a marine landscape, that's what I had in mind. Ended up looking like this

I'll paint over it most likely...

I think you should have left it how it was in the first picture you posted, and used a knife or something sharpish to scratch in illustrations similar to your tote bag!

Always tough to figure when to stop eh.

I say try to avoid using colour straight from the tube. I would've got a slap for that in uni! Mix the colour you want.. even if the colour you want is a white.. mix the shade of white you want.

Forced to do this, my work improved.

Enjoy. I love painting. Much prefer oil paints to acrylic. Now want to paint.

It's all about experimenting at the moment. So I'm not too worried that it turned crap... Part of the process, and I learnt not to do it again.

I agree about colours used straight from the tube, as I am using acrylics though I don't have the luxury of spending enough time on it before the paint dries. I do this in my coffee breaks more or less so by the time I am back to it my paint is dried.

I'd love to use oils and I am much more used to them but I'm not sure Mark would like the smell for prolonged periods of time. Maybe when I have my own studio...

I also have a very limited palette at the moment.

As I said I am just playing, if it works, it works, if it doesn't I can always start over

Oh and the white is mixed with blue and black. It came so white in the phone pic and instagram filter. I only used the ultramarine as it was and the red dabs.

I like it. I am slowly figuring out that you don't know what you can do until you do something amazing and then spend weeks trying to replicate the same level.
You might do 20 and have only have 1 that really stands out, just keep going.

As I said I like it, looks like a city scape with a fence in front of it, and the colours you have used bring up all sorts of political implications.

I just try to remember this isn't design there are no rules just paint its okay to be shit as long as you keep starting over. Even the good ones I do now will be shit by comparison years later. All about the journey and all that.

I also decided to make a sketchblog to keep me obligated to drawing throughout my exam period.
