Illustrator: new character set.

Latest set of characters created in Illustrator for presentation later this week.
Final detail isn't quite as finished as I'd have liked but thought I'd see if you had any comments before finalising.

Also, took Emil's advice on Illustrator blends which saved a load of time. What do you think?

look good.

there's something about the skin tones of the black lady that look wrong on my monitor.. like there's a touch of a yellow/green hew that makes her look a bit ill.

and perhaps change the tone of her coat edging as it's quite close to the skin colour?

Very nice, apart from the little girl she looks a bit freaky and manly to me. I think her t-shirt looks more like a boys t-shirt too.

nice.

the only things I would pick out is the strange shading under her scarf (on the right)...kinda like the start of a vest. doesn't make sense.
and her legs/feet are all black...no suggestion of shoes which looks a wee bit odd & unfinished.
just those 2 minor things really.

blends rule. the cadaveric skin tone seconded.

Nice job.

Cheers troops,

I've got a few things to complete and polish, like the fat ladies legs, and sort out some of the grads. Didn't even notice the skin tone. Looks fine on my screen! Will probably leave the girl's expression, perhaps just scale down the smile a bit.

I'm going to try and rap this up later today as soon as my eyes stop bleeding.

No meshing this time, although I did cheat by using blurred grads here and there.

good work, the Black birds glasses look like an optical illusion to me...like the perspective doesn't make sense.

Nice!

blends - I'm familiar with meshing but not blends, why do I get the feeling I'm missing something big in illustrator? blends as in simple shape blends??

Blends as very closely spaced shapes. You define the gradient by colouring the endpoints differently.

yeah, never thought about using it on such a complex level to colour an illustration like that... so the ladies head must be 50-odd blends alone?

You can use blends combined with transparency to get the shape you want, you can combine more than two shapes with different opacities and different blending modes for really neat effects.

Did these for a Romanian forum, but you get the point

This one reads
White overlay 40% opacity
White Normal 5% opacity
Black Multiply 30% opacity
