Help: Joining Paths In Illustrator
Basically I am having trouble re-tracing this logo with Illustrator The way I thought I would go about it is create a path for each of the faces and then join this paths together and thus have a complete shape that I could then paint (stroke + faces)... I am having a big problem here ( it is simply not working) and wondering if there was any way to do this or if I am going about it the completely wrong way? Please let me know how you would go about this project. The logo I am trying to re-trace is attached. Your help would be greatly appreciated... |

in illustrator try playing with: Window/Pathfinder you can join or slice selected groups of intersecting path objects... press expand and you have your shape. also. when your drawing the logo.. if you hold down the shift key it forces you to draw in isometric. might find that useful for this logo. |

I know the exact answer to that, but the site that has that tutorial is down, as soon as it is back up, I will post the tutorial. basically, it involves selecting 2 anchor points, and pressing a shortcut, something along the lines of ctrl+alt+shift+j, or something of that nature. |

I think there are probably a dozen different approaches to this. Personally my first attempt would probably be to make 3 diamonds for the faces, and add anchor points to the paths to allow me to deform them. One point I did wonder about though which is unconnected: would it not be more logical to have the 'U' on the top face of the cube, the 'F' on the left and the 'S' on the right, so that it copies the positioning of the text? Perhaps if it's not your logo design, you can't do much about that though. |
