Get out some paper, a fine pen, a fine brush and some India ink. Get drawing! Then scan the results. Wait for the ink to dry first. After you make some nice whirls, you can make then into brushes and post them on Illustrator sites and become well-known. After that, you can start to sell them... My free fonts www.utfi.net

Well said mate. Imagine the horror of using pens and paper in 2007. For any 'designer' out there who can't draw (grrr), they are available to buy from stock libraries. |

India ink, what the hell? Pen and paper, scan, trace in illustrator. I wouldn't necessary say it have to be made as a brush but I guess thats left for you to decide depending on how and where you want to use your swirls. |

try the spiral tool, the twirl tool and the warp tool in illustrator. have a look at the outline stroke option. get familiar with the P-A-P shortcut. the direct selection tool the pen tool Know your software. Get a tablet If you're behind a tight schedule. If you have the time, yes hand drawn stuff works best. |
