Tonal colours
sorry to be dumb but what are they exactly?
I'm imagining kind of bleached-out gradients. is that right?
any exmaples? or just a better description than mine.

i thought it was to do with groups of colours that are in harmony with each other - taking the musical reference. a colour on its own cannot be tonal.

In laymans terms: Colour Tones are dictated by saturation (or luminesence depending on the media) but not by hue.
