Can anyone help me

I got this problem with my clients site

It seems that the only resolution in which everything is perfect is 1600 by 1200. I heard it has something to do with doctype, but i was wondering if anyone knows how to lock everything into place using dreamweaver or frontpage, or, if that wont work, how to make the page compliant to most resolutions

the website is www.colangeloassociates.com

Don't know what your problem is with the screensize. It works on all resolutions as far as I can see.

WTF... 1600x1200!! WHY? More people use 800x600 than 1600x1200!!!!!!!! Us TFT users only have the joy of 1280x1024 unless you've paid astronomical ammounts for your TFT!

Looks oK at most resolutions, though I would personally lose the frame set as there is no real need for it!

The image at the top doesn't centre due to the huge number of nbsp's youhave to it's left. <p align="center"> sould be enough. I have a feeling though this may be due to your slider putting things out as it's width is 3000px!

Ignore me... it's friday and I'm ranting!

I honestly can't see how professionals can recommend obsolete techniques to those who are still learning.
Surely it's better to teach modern methods.

We all need to do our bit to bring the body of web designers up to speed.
Making sure the code we recommend is the best it can be is a good place to start.

No offence taken. I was only offering a quick solution to the problem without having to go into the depths of CSS and current standards and solving one of his problems with the aid of the [del] key.

With a little more thought I could have supplied the CSS alternative to aligning the image correctly, but would have found myself re-authoring the whole site at the same time.

Your right in what you say, we should be teaching out-starts the modern/compliant/correct way to do things. I slap myself accordingly for not doing so

It could have been worse... I could have suggested <center></center>

Bill - You didn't actually tell them how to do it properly. I'm disappointed, I really think we all need to do our bit to bring the body of web designers up to speed.

Do I really have to carry this place all by myself?

(I see you missed the opportunity to do so yourself, too. Disappointing all round, I'd say)

I knew you'd say that damnit. As I clicked submit I thought 'nah, he won't spot that'. Clever Bill

On a practical level, how can we advise standards compliant code when the existing page design is an old breed of html? I've tried that before and you end up having to talk through a restructuring of the whole page - as Brooklyn said.

In the case in hand it would have nothing to simply mention external or even embedded css and how that could be used to remotely set the align attribute for the <p> tag.

It's always handy to have some recommended reading to take some of the weight off of your shoulders when introducing folk to new concepts.

Here's a couple that I posted recently for Japanmik who asked for some clarification on the differences between class selectors, id selectors and tag selectors in css.

I'm not so much urging that we write our recommendations in our own words, just that, wherever they are sourced from, they are the best that they can be.
A good article such as those at Sitepoint will often impart the knowledge with a level of simplicity and effectiveness that many of us here have neither the time (or patience) to embed into our responses.
Let them take the strain sometimes.

Good answer.

I'd also recommend this for those wanting to begin to get to grips with css:
