Text Area Html Editor

Is there a HTML editor out there that you could attach to a text area? There are loads of wysiwyg editors out there like TinyMCE, but I can't seem to find any for typing code. I'm talking simple - like syntax highlighting and auto-closing tags.

Maybe someone at the Ace Google group could answer.
Also, found this post reviewing Ace + 2 other editors:

Thanks belugey, you're a star.

Yeah, been attempting to wrap my head around wp plugins - it's doing my head in. But a nice html editor would be cool - if I have the patience to work out how to do it.

We've been using code mirror for some time and our users like it. We're always on the lookout for even better solutions and ACE seems great but I'm a little skeptic about the browser support. It appears to be only tested on chrome/firefox
