How do I disable a link until my sponsors banner is clicked?

Run into a snag with a site that I'm building.

I'd like to disable a link on my page until my sponsors banner is clicked. So for example there would be a message on the page like: "Please click on my sponsors banner before viewing the file".

Then, after my sponsors banner is clicked the link is enabled and the file can be viewed.

Not sure how to go about it though.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm pretty new to web design so please give as much detail as possible.

that'll be the most annoying site in the world you're building then.

why not (just to make it really annoying) have a javascript popup which says 'click the fucking banner dude' and the file you mentioned is not linked. when they click the banner, your page reloads with the file linked.

sigh.

So your sponsor is going to be receiving some quality traffic then, irrated people forced on to his website. Im sure he'll thank you for it.

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm beginning to suspect there's sarcasm about these parts.

Hey, why not get them to submit their credit card details for 'verification purposes' first too?

PS - To answer the original question why not use 'onclick' ties to a 'document.write' ? (or just go browse some nice xxx sites...)
