mac os x 10.2 finder fuck up

i'm flawed and vunerable.

for some random reason when i emptied my mac os x 10.2.8 bin my finder closed down and all the icons on my screen disapeared. when i click on finder it tells me "finder out of service". i've tried re-dowloading the 10.2.8 update to no effect. of course i've tried the usuall shut down then restart, restarting in safe mode and the force to quit function (which results of 4 different icons of finder appearing then disappearing). the only thing i see left is the software restore cd, getting panther (which i don't see the point since i'm thinking of buying a new iMac when they come out in september) or restoring the original computer to the factory settings (and delete everything...)

anyone elese has ideas (and yes i checked the apple website)

can you run any apps? doesn't sound like you can to be honest but if you can, try running onyx - a housekeeping app
