illustrator help

I have no idea about anything to do with illustrator really, but I'm wondering how I can like, create a layer in between these two black lines I've made using the pen tool, so that I can fill it with a colour. I dunno... Any help appreciated

fill outer path with colour. Pull the inner path to the top, select both and either in pathfinder panel click one of the buttons in the upper row. Sorry its late and Im tired and I cant be arsed to open Illy and give more specific instructions.

too many nodes. You could draw that shape with about 6. Get used to the node tools. They will sort your skills right oot.
