Learning Curve

can anyone point me towards some good urls which may help me learn more about design?

I dont want web design stuff cos i know a few places to look there, and loads of them focus on html, flash, and 'how to' type things.

I'm after concepts, rules and things that designers would learn in a structured course.

Y'see i never have attended any formal training and would like some references.

ta.

It's interesting this - for those of you who have been thru numeeja design skool - do they start with basic graphics or is it all very web/screen orientated?

I did a Multimedia Design BA and it included life drawing, 2D stop-frame animation, 3D modelling and web design so I got a bit of everything.
There are quite a few courses out there now so I'm guessing you could find some that lean towards graphic design for print, and some that approach it from a screen-based design.

e here. before my Multimedia BA we had to do a foundation where i did fine art, then once on the course we did typography and life drawing. we also did modules in photography, photo montage and drawing. only once we'd go started on that stuff did we move to multimedia

I'm from a comp sci. background and pick up programming/scripting/markup language syntax in a scarily quick time, and even with Photoshop and Illustrator it was just a matter of doing some tutorials and reading up a bit. Flash however is just something I can't seem to get into, even after about 3 'learn flash' books. Been thinking recently I might actually see if there's any "hands on" training courses run around the Glasgow area that may make it all click for me..

Since i started studying Java i have found flash scripting opening up to me in a way it never did before.
Flash actionscript is heavily modelled on Java and many of the Java books out there approach the subject from a OO perspective and this, for me anyway, showed me the way regarding many of the elements of flash programming.

That said, i've a long way to go with it.
V.Powerful stuff.

btw. thanks everybody.

my BA covered traditional graphic design and typography (hand skills essentially), fine art, illustration, life drawing etc etc then moved into interactive stuff as it became more popular in the outside world.

Foundation before that covered photography, fine art, printing and the usual.
