Her question isnt wether she should do it ...she wants to know how to do it...besides it depends on the site, some sites are great with music.

Name one.

MeatSpin.com - You spin me right round baby, Right round!

An excellent example of audio and video working together in seamless unison.

I doubt Red Rose will be replying, after all its almost a year since this was posted. The question should be what should we do to the noobs who spam old posts to get post count up.

It's back to the old controversy about Fifteen Posts Before Enabling Linking. No limit and the forum is full of spam. Fifteen is just enough to deter most spammers but personally, I'd up it to 50.

3 things on this post that as designers I think we have fallen short...

1) Writing in bold or caps is done by many people all over the world for many different reasons - the visually impaired is one.

2) having audio play in a website can perform other tasks, such as having a voice over for the hearing impaired or children's songs for a kids website (who LOVE music websites)

3) Audio on a site is not always the designers choice... there is a thing called clients!!!

So if anyone can help out it would be appreciated.

Now I will sit back and take the impending abuse

"such as having a voice over for the hearing impaired"

Yes, I can see how that might be a helpful thing to have. Like subtitles for the blind.

More than a year on now, I wonder if they found the solution to their problem. Hopefully not

1) Other things that are done all over the world by many people, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend:

- Writing in comic sans
- Turning your home into a replica of the bridge on the Enterprise
- Genocide

2) I think a good use of audio on a website would be to shout constantly about how great the designer of the site is. "I am great, I made this site, la la la, I made this site", the voice would sing. Endlessly. Until the end of time, if need be.

3) The job of the designer is generally to persuade the client that their idea is a bit mental, though, and will no doubt result in lost sales and bleeding eardrums.

Nothing wrong with a spot of genocide every so often just to keep your hand in, as it were, and show them who's who. Otherwise I agree 100%
