Hi, I am planning to do a series of self promo including building a web site and a set of mini-folio to mail out. I decide upon using the name "aPeaceofMe" for my theme as well as the name for my personal web site. The reason i pick this name is becuase i am thinking about -a piece of me. I think every work i have done so far as a desinger they represent me. They are pieces of me. Instead of using piece i use PEACE because i find peace in doing what i like. Graphic design is to create successful communication, with this in mind, i use my work to express my thoughts and in reutrn bring me peace. This self promo is aPeaceofMe at this particlar stage in time. Please give me some feedback about the name? and what do you think about it?? thank you very much! |

Its an interesting domain name, certainly. I'm just not sure, people will really understand it, the link seems deep too deep. When I say it to my-self I keep expecting the site to a follow a theme of peace = love = war, but maybe that's just me. I don't really consider it related in the graphics sense. |

sounds a bit too much like some person's meditation page with caring/sharing blogs and little renga and haiku. You know, the sort of stuff you get in books that people have to one side in the smallest (reading) room in the house alongside similarl bon mots from Freud, Confucius and Sarah Beeny. 'Peace' is a word with such baggage that it overwhelms any other connotations. I wouldn't expect a site with that name to be a folio site. I don't think this is the right project to be misdirecting the audience in the hope that they'll appreciate the pun. That is, unless you want to attract (commercially) useless viewers seeking out other sensitive souls. |

i wouldn't particularly worry too much about domains.....they're buttons to buy anyway, so I'd get a few, or get something up and running anyway. That's yer first thing to do - get the work up. As long as you don't spend forever turning a name into a logo that will look shit or need re-doing everytime you get bored of the domain name, you'll be ok. It's really not that important for a personal portfolio site..... I bought loads of domains based on things that mean something to me, but not neccessarily anyone else....smackheads.com is my current favourite....wonder what i can do with it ?? Hmmmm |

....and if you see any names that you like, and have got a couple of quid to spend...then just grab them - there and then !! ...cos if you don't, then someone else almost certainly will !!! I get mine from 123reg.co.uk - about £6 per co.uk per 2 years...and you get good control over DNS settings, nameservers etc.... You can probably find 'em cheaper than that as well... |

Class. On the other note - fuck whatever anybody else thinks. If you're any good at what you do then nobody will give a monkeys about the name anyway, they'll be gawping at your work. Shakespeare had that sussed out - a rose by any other name etc etc? |

What do you consider to be a 'reasonable level of service'? Just curious. |
