If you're running CS3 on it, get more than 2GB of RAM. Mine is a god damned slug when running Photoshop. I think you could do that, but wouldn't the shipping costs and general inconvenience make it not worth the few hundred dollars you'd save? Last edited by pgo : 25-06-2008 at 12:27. |

yeah your best bet is to have friend or yourself bring one from their vacation in the states, if you try shipping it your gonna have to pay sales tax and import tax on it. Also your gonna have to by a new charger that fits to your electric grid. |

I checked, it's £200 cheaper when buying an iMac. Can a macbook take 4GB ram? I don't mean to hi-jack the thread but I'm curious. [ Programmers Voice - Blog about the internet, code and development ]

I try. On a serious note, I am considering a MacBook, but they are awfully expensive. If they were a little bit cheaper I would probably have one already. I'm looking to get rid of my desktop in August and would be purchasing a laptop then. I've got two months to decide my path. Dark side or shiny side? |

I'd go for a Mac, but I would say that as I've mainly used used them for 10 years so I prefer them by far, I know bugger all about PCs really, but my limited experience has led me to dislike Windows immensely, oh hang on, this is turning into a Mac V PC thing… I'll stop there. If you're used to a PC then that would certainly be a cheaper option, the MacBook Pro is silly expensive, the other Mac lappies aren't cheap either, I'd like to get one too (save firing up my desktop just to check my email etc when I'm at home) but I refuse to fork out for two Macs. If they lowered their prices they might increase their market share. |

nah apple doesnt know what currency means... a 1000$ macbook in the american store, is priced at 1000 eur in the european store. Whereas 1000$ is actually 650 eur, and 1000 eur is actually 1550$, so we pay about 150% of what americans pay... speaking of which, if they do the same trick with the iphone 3G, were gonna end up paying 199 eur for the 8GB model, which is 308$, which is more than americans will pay for the 16GB model (299$) ... go figure |

If you're going to be using it for design, it might be worth shelling the extra cash for a Macbook Pro. I got mine 17" 1920x1200 from the states via a friend. I saved about 1000 Euros compared to what I would have paid had I gotten it here. I stuck 4GB RAM in it and it's a screamer, but the screen is piss poor compared to the imac. |

Let's not turn this into a Mac vs. PC exercise in pointlessness. Any posts not generally on that topic will go away. I promise to resist complaining about my MacBook. I agree with emil. I would consider a MBP with 4GB RAM. The MacBooks are seriously lacking in performance, but if you throw 4GB in one of those, it might be alright. Mine has 2GB and it's not enough. Yeah, Pgo deletes anything that goes off topic apparently… Of course, if this was enforced throughout DT there would hardly be any posts (or users) left, DT is a bit of a free for all compared to other forums but that's what makes most of us use it. It's ok to use the 'c' word, post images of drugs, and have mass arguments but whatever you do don't mention Macs and PCs… |
