Backup

I have a portable hard drive for backing up my system.

I'm having problems backing up my system this month by experiencing really slow copying speeds.

When I copy a couple of gig, it is fine, and copies across from my computer to portable hard drive at a nice speed (about 5MB per second).

I've just initiated my system to be copied across (about 100GB), and it is going at a rate of about 500KB per second. At this rate I will be here for days.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a reason it is going so slow.

Thanks

i find stuff slows down to a crawl when you copy loads of small files... for instance, a large collection of fonts.

a big file of the same total size as all the fonts seems to copy nice and quick.

don't know why.. it just does. (shrugs shoulders and goes to make a cup of tea)

Is it connected via usb2?

If so the burst transfer rate is dramatically faster than the sustained rate.

Thanks.

Do you know how to determine a USB2 slot from a standard USB slot?
