Macbook broke...

Spilt a titdgy bit of water on my macbook when it was closed - now, it starts to load up and then after a varying amount of time, but always before your desktop has fully loaded, it makes 'boooooop' sound and shuts down. Please please please any ideas or life-saving answers? I really don't want to have to take it somewhere to be fixed.

put it in the airing cupboard, or somewhere warm and just prey that the water evaporates.

Alternately get a hairdryer on it

Edit. sorry didn't read that properly. If the water wasn't spilt on any of the internals tht that can't be he source of the problem.

Look up error codes maybe

Sub, I'll try but i don't tihnk it's anything like that - nothings been killed i dont think, because half my desktop loaded up, all the same folders, desktop background, all that. I'm hoping it's just a drip or two somewhere and drying it out might work

In the meantime I would get someone to network to it so that you can get all your files to a safe place.

This happened to me a few years ago when I was half way through my dissertation.

bye bye 4000 words

If you ever get any electronics wet, you should remove the battery and power supply immediately and simply put it somewhere to dry (airing cupboard) as open as possible for as long as possible.

Some moisture could take up to a week to evaporate, by using the electrical whatever at all during this time, you risk damaging (short circuiting) the chips permanently.

Apple care doesn't cover accidental damage and it's easy to tell when something's gotten wet (white residue on chips, corrosion on metal contacts, moisture sensors, etc). Your best bets a fingers crossed approach... if you only spilt water and are patient, then you should be fine.

cheers all - I've whopped the battery out, got it on its side in my conservatory which is nice and warm and dry. Gunna leave it like that for a couple of days probly.
