Publisher?

Hello.

Don't suppose anybody has any experience with Microsoft Publisher do they? A client has asked me to produce a newsletter template, which they will use in Publisher to produce an in-house newsletter. I know, I know - not ideal, but that's what they want...

It will be the usual masthead, logo positioning, header/footer graphics and all that gubbins, but I'm wondering what my limitations are - can they easily import a template to use as a background? Do I supply A4 jpegs, and can I supply separate graphic components for them to use as article holders etc? It's only an A4 4pp document.

Any help gratefully received. Ta.

There are a ton of newsletter templates in Publisher and you can edit every aspect of them. If that helps.

Publisher can cope with high res images and vectors as far as I can remember. So TIFF's and SVG's (the native MS vector) should be fine.

I had a hunt to see if templates could be imported but looks like you can only edit premade ones. However i have heard that once you learn some of the tricks that you can get really good results. Everything is customisable. (is that even a word it doesn't sound right)

So looks like you'll be spending some time in Publisher.

Cheers lads, but I won't be going anywhere near Publisher - I'll just be supplying files that they can import and use as templates. Just to be clear - I will be producing my template on a Mac and supplying these for them to use on their PCs.

Limbo has supplied the answer I was looking for!

in short the fool proof way would be to supply 300dpi CMYK tiffs for them to pop in the background.

But you can do illustrator EPS (with all fonts to paths and no spots) too... i recall. not touched it for a while.

If the PC will work after the powercut.. We have a copy of publisher here. If you want us to pop your pap in a pub file for you it takes no time.

Cheers our kid - haven't designed anything yet, but once I have started something that would be ace, thanks man. Would be really useful to test something with you before I produce the entire template... I'll give you a shout when I have a masthead or summat.

Publisher is actually a pretty decent program for making newsletters and the like. I used to do our company's newsletter to our customers, and I did a four page layout that was quite easy to work with. Everything can be positioned easily, and it works with vectors, so its not bad.

Cool man, cheers. As long as the client can use it, and is able to import my components in to the layout that will be ideal.

Heh, what can I say. I'm a rookie!

...not much of a designer at all either. I'm sure there is way better stuff out there, but for laymen like me, its a good thing.
