Invoice design

Hi guys,

A good client asked me to redesign their printed invoice.

It's full of columns and blocs built upon their accounting software, so the layout cannot be changed.

I'd love to see how others answered to that same problem, do you know where can I find some decent examples of nicely designed tabular invoices ?

If the layout cannot be changed aren't you a bit fucked?

I mean, surely you need more control than just the header/footer?

Can you have some input on the way their software presents the info on page?

Perhaps so it only writes/positions text, you can then control the grid, colours and layout etc.

Did you do their Stationery line? Might be worth showing what can be done to convince them...

Hmmm. Not to be a big downer or anything but an invoice is just a functional object. The only people who see it are the accounts dept and the inside of an A4 lever arch file. Stick their new logo on the top and move on.

Aren't invoices also sent to clients? It's just an extension of a corporate identity.

Indeed. Every time your client receives comms from you it should look amazing.

The logo is set in Arial, the baseline is verdana and I can spot some Times new Roman and a courrier in the footer bloc...

I might succeed in making some improvements without touching the layout.
