Online Store

I have been asked to create a site for a client that would like to sell their products online.

What would be the best recommendation for this? I have had a look at integrating a PayPal Shopping basket with the site and possibly use Wordpress so they can update and change text whenever they need to. Do any of you guys know if there is a plug-in capable of managing products/categories for online shopping?

I have also just come across ZenCart, i don't know too much about this but have just installed it on my hosting account and it seems very useful. I am just unsure about integrating a design that i am going to create for their site. Does anyone have any experience in this?

Any feedback would be great, Cheers

Expression Engine might work well for this. It has zencart (shopping module) built in. It works a lot like Wordpress but is designed to be more flexible than Wordpress. There is a bit of a learning curve to it if you have never used it, but it maybe takes a day to get it understood. The documentation and support is amazing.

expressionengine.com - it isn't free but it is cheap.

Cheers for that.

I have been looking into this Magento - Home - Open Source eCommerce Evolved and think it looks good for free and ticks every box i am looking for.

I have done a bit of research on E-commerce platforms and noticed that most of them use tables for layout, this one doesn't.

Has anyone had any experience with this before?

My experience with eCommerce (in Canada) is that you definitely want to go with a third party solution such as PayPal (as you have alluded to). We have laws that require us to hold on to cc #'s, etc. which become a liability with privacy acts and security. It's actually quite simple to programmatically create products on the fly to work with PayPal since it does not require prior knowledge of the item you're making. With the API that I used each product is a form - done and done. I have also heard very good things about Magneto and will definitely be giving it a try in the future.

If you don't want to manage either the financial or infrastructure aspects of the site you could go with something like shopify.com. Not necessarily my preference but they definitely make it easy to get up and running for a relatively low fee.
