Mac Mouse

Anyone know how to get the roller ball on my mac mouse working? It scrolls from left to right but not up and down. It may just be broken but thought I'd ask here just in case someone knows.

not that i know of. the fluid loosens up the dirt.. the drubbing with a cloth moves it out of the way.

google cleaning mighty mouse.

Rubbing the ball on a sheet of paper worked for a while for me. But I'm tired of cleaning it every couple of days...

Its strange how it works fine scrolling right to left and just doesnt go up or down at all. I have got it set to 360* scrolling.

I have no use for their shite mouse, but I do like the sideways scrolling.

It's a major design flaw, but they've never fixed it. Every mighty mouse suffers from the same problem. I put up with it for about 6 months and then bought a Logitech. Best purchase I ever made for my Mac. There are plenty of alternative mice that are more reliable, much more comfortable, and do sideways scrolling.

I agree, the mouse is shit. I had one at work and it jammed all the time. I just gave up the ability to scroll. But when I did bother to clean it, I found rolling a thin strip of clear tape, sticky side out, into the ball chambers would pull out all sorts of offending gunk.

I've always heard a lot of complaints about the mighty mouse. I've had 2 for over a year that I use constantly and I've never had a problem.

Yeah, there's always one. Do you sweat isopropyl alcohol?

I remembered cleaning my cassette heads with it back in the early days of the ZX Spectrum when you had to load your stuff from a domestic tape recorder. Seemed like the most likely candidate for degreasing a mighty mouse (although when my mouse first snarled up and I took it to the 'genius bar' in the Apple Store, they used distilled water).
