Eric Sans?

i know you mention dates early on.. but the way the copy reads is like Eric is a contemporary... just the way the para reads on to talk about computers. I would break that up or re-word it.

i would line up all the copy to grid and kern in the caps on the Gill Sans header - bit all over the place as is.

I like the look of the new site and I think it may well look a little GILLISH, although we can never know for sure. I'm inclined to say it does. But to be sure, you could change the colours to those more associated with the 1910s-1920s, especially as regarding print graphics.

For gawd's sake don't quote wikipedia as you have done. Read Wikipedia by all means, interpret what it says (aka understand it) and then rewrite it in your own words. For example, I might say "Gill was inspired by Johnston's work for the London Underground to create the most legible alphabet yet". Or "Gill found his inspiration in the work of Johnstone, most known for his typeface for the London Underground".

Centro - it doesn't matter any more which goat he fucked. He's gone and the goat died too. All we have left is his wonderful typefaces which say ENGLAND better than any other design, apart from Laura Ashley's vomitous wallpapers.

Thank you all so far for your comments, here is another idea with more of a grid structure need to work on the colour now though.

It's better. Remember what I said about the text. I don't think the shit about system fonts is relevant to your theme.

Getting there. I'd move the headline TYPEFACES up a bit to give a little more space between it and the lower text, which would also alleviate the problem of the space under the left bar of the T when left-justified with the words GILL SANS.
If you insist on using that copy, you could at least correct it so it reads well-established with a hyphen and London Underground with a space. Change takes to took. You might take the time to correct the original Wikipedia version too, since you owe it one.

Odd how naked the English alphabet looks without ÅÄÖ åäö at the end!
